About Your Therapist

Megan Corrieri, MS, LPC

Licensed Professional Counselor. Nationally Certified Counselor. Founder of North Star Specialty Counseling & Therapy in Frisco, Texas.

A Little About Me

I was born and raised in Minnesota, and I moved to Frisco with my family in 2019. The transition from Minnesota winters to Texas heat was a big one, but I fell in love with this community pretty quickly. The people here are driven, hardworking, and deeply invested in their families. I see that in every client who walks through my door.

I got into this field in 2005. My first years were spent working with underserved communities through nonprofits and charitable organizations, which is where I learned that good therapy isn't about fancy techniques — it's about showing up for people and meeting them exactly where they are.

After finishing my Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at St. Cloud State University in 2009, I joined CORE Professional Services, one of the more prominent mental health institutions in Minnesota. I worked there until 2018, specializing in individual therapy for adults and overseeing group counseling programs. From there, I moved to a pediatric clinic in Sartell, MN, where I worked with adolescents before making the move to Texas.

I founded North Star Specialty Counseling & Therapy in 2021 because I wanted to build something that reflected how I actually practice — warm, direct, grounded in real clinical training, and free from the constraints that come with insurance-driven care.

When I'm not in session, you'll find me with my family, or fishing, traveling, or at a Zumba class. I bring the same energy to my practice that I bring to everything else: genuine, a little bit funny, and all in.

How I Work

I think therapy works best when it doesn't feel like therapy. What I mean is — my office isn't a place where you sit on a couch and get analyzed. It's more like a conversation with someone who happens to have the clinical training to help you see things clearly.

My approach pulls from CBT and DBT, which are both evidence-based and well-researched. But I'm not rigid about methodology. If something isn't working, I'll tell you, and we'll try a different angle. The goal is always progress, not adherence to a framework.

I'm direct. If I notice a pattern, I'll name it. If you're avoiding something, I'll gently call it out. But I'll do it with warmth, because none of this works without trust. My clients describe my style as friendly, caring, funny, and non-judgmental, and I take that as the highest compliment.

I work with individuals, couples, teens, and families. My clinical focus areas include postpartum depression and anxiety, stress and burnout, family communication, trauma, anxiety disorders, depression, grief, ADHD, life transitions, and relationship issues. If you're not sure whether what you're dealing with falls under my expertise, the free consultation is a good place to start.
